PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: This listing is for a 1977 Neve 8068 recording console, beautifully joined with a Neve 8066. 

A legendary desk in its own right, this particular Neve 8068 has a storied history, much like the 8068 that is the crown jewel of Studio B at Capitol Studios in Hollywood. 

The console started at Hollywood Sound Recorders, where the studio techs physically joined an API/Bushnell desk to the side of this 32-channel Neve 8068. The API section was wired to mix directly into the Neve 8068's main summing buses. Here is where artists such as the Rolling Stones, Prince, and Earth, Wind & Fire jump-started the beginning of this console's legendary discography.  

When Hollywood Sound Records decided to sell off some of their assets, the Neve console naturally went to the capable hands of resident Producer, Dave Cobb, who was at the beginning stages of his own stellar career before moving to Nashville to take over RCA Studio A.  

When building his incredible home studio in 2009, Producer/Songwriter Oliver Leiber commissioned John Edwards to build his studio and acquire this Neve console from Dave Cobb:

“Well, I bought a 1977 8068 Neve, tore it apart, then fixed the whole thing back to complete spec the way it came out of Neve; and then I bought an 8066 in Canada from the same year, bolted it on the end, and made it all talk to each other.” 

The console was installed and commissioned after having been fully restored and wired into the studio ecosystem at Oliver's place, where he has recorded such artists as Jeff Beck, Steven Tyler, Keith Urban, Nile Roger’s, Robben Ford, and Paul Abdul, to name a few. The console remains active and "on" at the time of this writing and is now being made available for a new owner to continue its legacy. 

At present, there may not be a finer Neve available in the world!

CONDITION

The console is actively being used at Oliver’s studio in Los Angeles, where it has been maintained and kept session-ready since he commissioned it. The photographs in this listing are current and accurately represent the console in its present condition.

While the console as a whole is in very good working condition and does not require any major servicing at this time, prospective buyers should understand that a Neve of this vintage requires some degree of ongoing maintenance, which is inherent to owning a console of this age. As with virtually all Neve consoles from this era, it is normal to encounter scratchy or intermittent pots, switches, or buttons that may require exercise, cleaning, or adjustment. From time to time, modules or cards may also need to be re-seated, and routine calibration, alignment, and general servicing may be required as part of normal ownership.

It is particularly important to understand that a console of this vintage may respond to decommissioning, transportation, installation, and recommissioning in unpredictable ways. Components that have been stable and operating normally in a working studio environment can require attention after being moved. Accordingly, while every effort will be made to ensure the console is functioning properly and ready for transport at the time of sale, we cannot guarantee that every control, switch, module, or function will operate with absolute perfection immediately upon arrival and reinstallation.

This should not be interpreted as an indication of any known major fault with the console. Rather, it is a realistic acknowledgment of the nature of maintaining a nearly 50-year-old Neve recording console. The new owner should be prepared for the routine cleaning, adjustment, re-seating, calibration, and servicing that can be part of owning and operating a vintage Neve at this level.

DECOMMISSIONING AND DELIVERY

The selling party can assist in recommending a qualified team to decommission, disassemble, and remove the console from its current location, as well as re-commission and install the console at a location within Los Angeles.

If the console is to be shipped outside of Los Angeles or internationally, the selling party can recommend a reputable crating and shipping service.

The cost of all decommissioning, removal, transportation, crating, shipping, re-commissioning, and installation services will be the buyer’s responsibility and is not included in the purchase price of the console.

Alternatively, the buyer is welcome to furnish their own qualified team to decommission, disassemble, and remove the console after the transaction has been completed.
